The Waltham Symphony Orchestra is a full-complement symphony orchestra. It is comprised of top professional, amateur and student musicians from the Waltham area and surrounding communities. All musicians are admitted to the orchestra via audition Orchestra members are involved in the audition process and musicians are admitted not only on the basis of their musicianship but also of their ability to integrate a very tight group.
As the orchestra only rehearses two weeks prior to each concert, it is essential that musicians be dedicated to their music and practice their parts prior to the first rehearsal. Since one of the goals of the orchestra is to foster an ambiance of camaraderie while at the same time perfecting the art of orchestral playing, musicians are often offered the possibility of rotating within their section, at the discretion of the conductor and the section leader.
Musicians of the Waltham Symphony also form chamber music groups performing in formal settings such as concerts and private functions as well as for charity fund-raisers.
If you are interested in hiring musicians from the orchestra for your gathering, conference, celebration, cocktail, reception, please drop us a note at: info@walthamsymphony.org
Dear Waltham Symphony,
As the founding director and conductor of the original Waltham Symphony Orchestra & Chorus from 1976-1979, I was just delighted to see that
the orchestra has been resurrected! The premiere
concert of the group took place in Dec. of 1976 at the Sacred Heart Church before a crowd of 1,000 people, complete with the blessing of then Mayor Arthur Clark. (You may find more articles from the Waltham News Tribune from this era about the orchestra.) We began with 50 musicians in the orchestra and 50 in the chorus performing classical music and combined choral/orchestral masterworks. The group survived 5-6 years, then
disbanded under my successor. If you desire any further history on the original group, I would be happy to provide it.
My best wishes for the continued success of this group!
